Addressing an audience of industry professionals, athletic trainers, sports physicians, executives and enthusiasts, Tencone shared his extensive experience in managing and rehabilitating injuries in elite athletes.
To reduce injuries, athletes need to train more, not less

During his speech, the director emphasized that after a serious injury, it is by no means guaranteed that a footballer will be able to return to their previous performance standards. The recovery process, he explained, is complex and requires careful planning, gradual progression, and teamwork involving multiple professionals. For this reason, Tencone reiterated a point he feels strongly about: to reduce injuries, athletes need to train more, not less, focusing on targeted, progressive programs grounded in scientific evidence.

If we want to continue enjoying the talent of great champions, he noted, it is essential to listen to what research teaches us and to adopt a modern, responsible approach to athletic preparation. Investing in prevention, in the quality of daily work, and in the care of athletes means not only protecting their health but also ensuring the quality of the sporting spectacle that football is able to offer the public. Only in this way will it be possible to preserve the longevity and value of the game’s leading players over time.
