An international scientific contribution on anterior cruciate ligament injuries in professional footballers

SHARE

The Director of our Education and Research Department, Dr Francesco Della Villa, participated as a speaker at the ACL Study Group Biennial Meeting 2026 in Brazil. A great honour for our group.

This is the biennial congress of one of the most important international groups of orthopaedic specialists and researchers dedicated to injuries and reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee. It took place from 1st to 5th February 2026 at the Wish Foz do Iguaçu Resort, in Foz do Iguaçu, in the state of Paraná, Brazil.

The ACL Study Group was founded in 1988 as a community of surgeons with a shared interest in the treatment of the anterior cruciate ligament and, over the years, has become an important forum for scientific discussion, comparison of surgical techniques, analysis of clinical results and in-depth study of ACL injury prevention strategies.

The Meeting brings together the best surgeons and researchers from around the world with a specific interest in ACL injuries.

The Isokinetic Medical Group was also present at the event. Dr Della Villa shared with other participants the know-how developed by our Medical Group, presenting a study entitled “Whole Body and Knee 3D Biomechanics of ACL Injuries in Male Professional Football (Soccer) Players”, carried out over the last five years in collaboration with Eng. Zago’s team from the University of Milan.

Analysing the biomechanics of injuries allows us to understand what really happens during these injuries and therefore to optimise prevention pathways and post-operative rehabilitation, a continuing mission of our group for the benefit of our patients.
