In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Dr. Fabrizio Tencone, the long-time doctor of Juventus FC and now head of Isokinetic Turin, spoke about his years alongside the club’s champions and shared several episodes from inside the locker room.
Tencone worked for the Bianconeri club in two different periods, from 1995 to 2002 and again from 2010 to 2016, experiencing the team’s victories up close.
Great coaches such as Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte, and Massimiliano Allegri accompanied him throughout his career—managers who were also attentive to the medical and physical aspects of the players.
Among the most difficult memories are several serious injuries: Gianluigi Buffon’s back problem, Alessandro Del Piero’s severe knee injury, and Ciro Ferrara’s tibia fracture.
The doctor takes part in the team’s daily life and in decisions related to the players’ health.

Even though the doctor does not score goals or win matches, his role is still important because he takes part in the team’s daily life and in decisions related to the players’ health.
The Managing Director of the Isokinetic Turin clinic also explained that the medical staff can play a role in transfer decisions by evaluating players’ medical histories. A striking example was the arrival of Andrea Pirlo in 2011: despite some physical problems he had experienced at AC Milan, at Juventus FC he played almost all the time.
Today Fabrizio Tencone no longer works in football and now focuses on sports medicine and university teaching:
“Now I find it rewarding to be everyone’s doctor, not just the players’.”
