The 33rd edition of the Isokinetic Conference 2026, one of the leading international congresses dedicated to football medicine, took place from 18 to 20 April at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre.
Organised in partnership with FIFA, the Conference brought together specialists from around the world, including physicians and rehabilitation professionals from Isokinetic Roma, to discuss the most advanced strategies in sports rehabilitation and return to performance.
The 2026 theme, “Return to Performance”, placed a key question at the centre of the debate: how can we guide athletes from clinical recovery to full performance?
The contribution of Isokinetic Roma to sports medicine
Within this international setting, the Isokinetic Roma team played an active role, providing concrete contributions grounded in both clinical practice and scientific research.
Medical Director Giovanni Maria d’Orsi chaired the session “Case Reports – Medical Issues”, focusing on complex clinical cases and medical decision-making.
The discussion among specialists highlighted a key point: effective rehabilitation today cannot be achieved without an evidence-based and multidisciplinary approach.

Sports rehabilitation: new strategies compared
Significant attention was also given to physiotherapy and functional rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation specialist Giovanni De Sario chaired the poster session “Physical Therapy Strategies”, dedicated to the latest developments in sports rehabilitation.
The focus was clear:
- – integration of strength, motor control and injury prevention
- – individualisation of the rehabilitation pathway
- – use of evidence-based protocols

ACL injuries and recovery: the role of aquatic training
Among the scientific contributions, Flavia d’Agostino presented the study:
“Relationship between early functional training in the pool and long-term movement quality after ACL reconstruction”.
The study explored an increasingly relevant topic in anterior cruciate ligament rehabilitation: the impact of early aquatic training on long-term movement quality.
An important insight, as it shifts the focus:
- – not only on recovery
- – not only on recovery, but on the quality of return to play

Beyond rehabilitation: towards return to performance
The participation of Isokinetic Roma in the 2026 Conference confirms a clear positioning:
not only the treatment of injury, but the complete management of the athlete’s pathway.
This means:
- – injury prevention
- – rehabilitation
- – return to sport
- – return to performance
A model that sets Isokinetic apart within the sports medicine landscape.
International experience and continuous scientific exchange enable Isokinetic Roma to translate the most advanced strategies for athlete recovery into daily clinical practice.
